Orphan presents a new version of Toei's riotous 1971 feature-length cartoon *Ali Baba to Yonju-hiki no Touzoku* (*Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves*). An explosion of color, gags, and outrageous designs, this was the last Toei film that Hayao Miyazaki worked on before joining Isao Takahata and other ex-Toei creatives at A Pro. For more information, see [this blog entry](https://collectr.blogspot.com/2026/10/ali-baba-to-yonju-hiki-no-touzoku-ali.html).
The movie's plot is a riff on the "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" tale from *1001 Nights*, with a bit of *Aladdin and the Magic Lamp* thrown in. Ali Baba's descendent, King Alibaba XXXIII, has exhausted the riches left to him by his ancestor. He turns to the Genie of the Lamp, who would be happy to provide more, except it's deathly afraid of cats. Alibaba orders a roundup of all the cats in his kingdom, but the most street-wise escape. They team up with Al Huck, the descendant of the original thieves' leader, to exact revenge on Alibaba XXXIII and his tame genie, to great comic effect.

Encoded from a Toei channel HDTV broadcast. The source is clearly not HD, so the encode has been scaled to 960x402.
This is v2. In v1, the translator, translation checker, and everyone else used "Alibaba" instead of "Ali Baba" in the dialog. If you downloaded the first torrent, a patch to go from v1 to v2 is [here](https://mega.nz/file/2cBUFAIQ#bcGM-uJW6toBtVbFi8CYqaPfrGZBk9gRVl7Ant9sX6U). Sorry for the mixup.
